Plantar Warts
Plantar warts are common viral skin infections that occur on the bottom
of the foot. Infection is promoted by breaks in the skin and warm, moist
conditions. Walking around public showers or locker rooms in bare feet
is a common risk factor for plantar warts. The warts resemble calluses
but can have small black dots that are capillary endings.
Warts will usually
disappear by themselves, but you should seek treatment if they cause
pain. Your physician may recommend the use of salicylic acid patches
or may
remove it by freezing it with liquid nitrogen or cutting it off.
